Portuguese Citizenship for Sephardic Jews

with Portuguese citizenship legal expert, Rita Mayer Jardim

Thursday, November 7, 7:00PM

Free and open to the public, but registration encouraged - click here.

While Spain has ended its Law of Return for Sephardic Jews, Portugal continues to grant European citizenship to those wishing to reclaim their ancestors' citizenship. Close to 10,000 people have already been approved with around 40,000 pending.

To answer the many questions prospective applicants have, Rita Mayer Jardim, a Lisbon-based lawyer specializing in this path to Portuguese citizenship, will return to our Congregation to update us on this law. Is it necessary to show a connection to Portugal? Is there a language or any other test? Do you need to travel to Portugal? What is the rejection rate? How can one prove a sephardic connection? How long is the process taking and how bureaucratic is it? What are the costs?

Learn the answers to these and more questions during an informal chat where a successful case will be discussed.

Note that this session is meant for informational purposes only, not as an endorsement of any business.
