COVID Infrastructure Fund

In order to allow us to finally reunite at High Holiday services, and ensure that our synagogue building could be as safe as possible during these perilous times, Shearith Israel has invested significantly in infrastructure changes (list of improvements available below).

These crucial improvements would not have been possible without the diligence and dedication of our Synagogue Re-Entry Working Group, or the financial support of our COVID Infrastructure Donors.

We would like to take this opportunity to offer them our heartfelt thanks. We are very grateful to everyone who has already supported these efforts, and as this is an ongoing effort, if you are interested in offering your support to our COVID Infrastructure Fund, please click here.

Infrastructure Improvements to Protect Against COVID-19:

We have engaged specialized and highly respected Engineers and Architects who analyzed our indoor and outdoor spaces, HVAC, and air circulation and who advised us on system upgrades and seating plans for all of our indoor and outdoor spaces.

- We have inserted MERV-13 filters throughout our HVAC system. These filters will require ongoing monitoring and replacement.

- We purchased many high quality portable HEPA Whole Room Air Purifiers with Allergen Removers (which are being placed strategically based on engineer specifications).

- We enhanced the air circulaton on the outdoor Portico according to the precise specifications recommended by our Engineers and Architects. We purchased and installed fans that are arranged to enhance air circulation, drawing fresh air onto the Portico and pulling stale air out (but not directed onto pedestrians or individuals at the nearby bus stop).

- Our outdoor services at the MDS rooftop have been arranged according to the recommendations of our Engineer an Architects, including seating plans and uni-directions ingress and egress.

- Strict cleaning and sanitizing procedures, including the purchase of PPE, cleaning supplies, and sanitizers for staff and congregant use.
