Yom Hashoah

We mark the solemn day of Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, with the recitation of a memorial prayer at evening services. In recent years, Shearith Israel has joined with other Orthodox Jewish Congregations on the West Side of Manhattan to sponsor joint programs to commemorate this sacred occasion.

The oldest of our extant cemeteries is known as the Chatham Square Cemetery.  It is located in Chinatown at 55 St. James Place.  The land was originally purchased in 1682 by Joseph Bueno de Mesquita.
