Rabbi Shalom Morris, Educational Director

Rabbi Morris received his Rabbinic Ordination, M.A. in Jewish History and B.A. in Economics from Yeshiva University. He is a Ph.D. candidate at the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies in Early Modern Jewish History with a focus on New World and Sephardic studies.  Prior to coming to Shearith Israel in 2009, Rabbi Morris served as Assistant Rabbi at Lincoln Square Synagogue. Rabbi Morris is principal of the Congregational Hebrew School, the Polonies Talmud Torah School, as well as Outreach Coordinator, Youth Director and Adult Education Coordinator.

Crosby Street Synagogue

 In 1834 the congregation built a new synagogue on Crosby Street, between Broom and Spring Street.

Although several locations were initially considered for the Congregation’s second cemetery, the land ultimately selected was located on Milligan Street in the heart of what we know as Greenwich Village on West 11th Street.
