Communal Beth Olam Cemetery Trip

Sunday, September 10

Join us for our annual visit to Beth Olam Cemetery, sponsored by the Hebra Hased vaAmet.  Members can visit the graves of loved ones before the High Holidays and recite a memorial prayer in the metaher house (aka the Vaux chapel).  This event is family-friendly and deeply meaningful to people of all ages. A tour of the grounds will be given by our sexton, Zachariah Edinger.

Emma Lazaraus

Emma Lazarus is best known for her famous poem, “The New Colossus,” inscribed on the base of the Statue of Liberty.

Chatham Square Cemetery

The oldest of our extant cemeteries is known as the Chatham Square Cemetery.  It is located in Chinatown at 55 St. James Place.  The land was originally purchased in 1682 by Joseph Bueno de Mesquita.
